Gunmen suspected to be DSS operatives have reportedly abducted the newly elected member representing Isiala Ngwa federal constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, under the Labor Party (LP), Mr. Ginger Onwusibe, in Abuja.
The news of his abduction was confirmed in a Facebook post on Wednesday made by a former ally of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Mr. Ubani Danni, who alleged that Onwusibe was arrested on the orders of the state government.
According to him, hooded men suspected to be operatives of Department of State Services waylaid and whisked the lawmaker-elect away as he was making his way out of INEC office, where he had earlier joined his colleagues to receive certificates of return.
Ubani wrote, “Abia State Government has effected the arrest of Hon. Ginger Onwusibe by hooded men believed to be operatives of DSS.
“Ginger Onwusibe whose only sin his advocacy for good governance was waylaid and whisked away as he was making his way out of INEC office, where he had earlier joined his colleagues, the newly elected members of the Federal House of Representatives.
“This is one of the many illegal the strategies of this thieving shameless Abia State Government to psychologically intimidate supporters of Labour Party and to keep Ginger Onwusibe out of circulation in other for them to rig the gubernatorial election.
“By this information, all lovers of freedom and good governance are employed to join the crusade #FreeGingerNow”.
Efforts to obtain comment from Onwusibe proved abortive as his known phone line was unreachable as at the time of filing this report. The police authorities in Abia State denied knowledge of the development.
