Spain have won the 2026 World Cup, following a 1-0 win over defending champions Argentina on Sunday.
Spain defeated Lionel Messi’s Argentina in extra time to lift the trophy.
This is La Roja’s second world title ever, after they won it first in 2010.
Spain were in complete control of the game from start to finish, as Argentina struggled to impose themselves.
But Spain had nothing to show for their dominance in the regular 90 minutes of play.
The first half of extra time also ended without goals, with Argentina going down to 10 men after Enzo Fernandez picked up a second booking.
However, substitute Ferran Torres struck in the second half of extra time to secure Spain’s second World Cup after a disappointing Argentina were reduced to 10 men.
The defending champions did not register an attempt on goal until the 117th minute and fell short in their bid to become only the third nation to retain the World Cup.
Instead, Messi’s glorious World Cup career ended in heartbreak at the age of 39.
