Two residents of Zango village Gulani council area of Yobe state are feared killed in a weekend fracas over land which resulted in several injured.

Those who escaped the deadly attack on farmers in Zango Village, Dokshi Ward said that several others who were severely injured have since sort for treatment in nearby health facilities and Damaturu.

The attack, which occurred during the weekend, is believed to be related to a two-year-old conflict between the Zango victims and evading attackers residing in the Azare axis.

The attackers over the weekend, armed with bows, arrows and cutlasses, launched a brutal assault on the farmers, leaving a trail of sorrow, tears and blood in their trails.

Chairman of Gulani council Area, Daiyabu Njibulwa, during a visit expressed his frustration over the lingering attack without reciprocal counter action from the security agencies.

“We have repeatedly directed our complaints to the police, but no proper actions were taken despite the fact that a similar conflict occurred in the area last year, and today, we’re here to show you these victims including the two corpses. It’s time for you to take action, do it between you and your God.” The chairman charged the police present at the scene.

The Police said they had earlier sent a report to the Boundary Adjustment Commission for a lasting solution to the lingering conflict but is yet to get a tangible response.

Vigilantism Condemned: Two Dead, Two Injured in Gulani LGA

Meanwhile Yobe State Police Command has strongly condemned what it described as acts of vigilantism following a recent farmland dispute that resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to two others in Gulani council area.

A statement from the police PRO Dungus stated that “on August 9, 2025, at about 2330 hours, the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call from the Village Head of Zango, Gulani LGA, reporting a brutal attack by miscreants from Azere Village, Gujba LGA.

“The attack, sparked by a dispute over farmland, resulted in the deaths of Sani Makeri, 40, and Abdullahi Maicitta, 35, both of Zango and Azare Villages which lies between the boundaries of Gujba and Gulani LGA.

“The police swiftly responded, evacuated the slain, and rushed the injured to a specialist hospital in Damaturu.

“The survivors are receiving treatment, while the perpetrators fled the scene. The Command has commenced a manhunt for the assailants.

“The conflict, which began last year during the farming season, had been escalating despite efforts by the Command to investigate and facilitate a resolution through the State Boundary Adjustment Committee.

” The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, has condemned the acts and assured that the Command will not hesitate to arrest and bring to justice anyone found culpable.

“Farmers are advised to remain tolerant of boundaries and report disputes to the appropriate authorities for resolution. Both parties will be arraigned before the court for a lasting solution and to ensure justice for the slain and injured.” Said the statement.
