Fire Engulfs MTN Booster Station After Electrical Surge in Ibadan

A telecommunications booster station located on the University of Ibadan campus has caught fire, causing significant damage.

Daily Post reports that the booster station is situated within the Faculty of Nursing at the university.

It was learned that the substation caught fire due to an electrical surge.

It was also gathered that the booster station belonged to one of the telecommunications companies, MTN.

According to Daily Post, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

It was learned that the fire incident affected the Mikano electrical generator, board, and other telecommunications gadgets in the booster station.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, when contacted, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST on Saturday.

He said that the booster station belonged to MTN.

Akinyinka, while reacting, noted that men of the agency and firefighters from the university were able to quench the fire.

He said, “Oyo State Fire Service’s prompt response doused the fire at the MTN booster station beside the Faculty of Nursing, University of Ibadan.

“The fire incident was reported exactly at 04:00 hrs on Saturday, 22nd February 2025.

“The fire personnel, led by ACFS Olubunmi, were promptly deployed to the scene and arrived on time.

“On arrival, we met the Mikano electrical generator and board on fire. We quickly joined hands with the university’s fire marshals, and the fire was extinguished completely. The fire was caused by an electrical surge.”
