Scores Feared Dead as Fuel Tanker Explodes in Niger State

An undisclosed number of people, including a pregnant woman, have died in an explosion while attempting to scoop fuel from a crashed tanker in Dikko, Niger State, near Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning near Dikko Junction along Minna road leading to a high number of casualties and injuries including a pregnant woman and her children according to an eyewitness.

We cannot ascertain the number of those who lost their lives as of the time of filing the report.

It was gathered that some individuals were attempting to scoop the fuel from the crashed tanker and transfer it into their jerrycan and containers when the explosion occurred.

It was also learnt that some of them also brought a generating set in the process to scoop the fuel which resulted to the devastating explosion.

Several people were said to have lost their lives in the incident, including a pregnant woman and her children.

One of the eyewitnesses stated, “I saw the bodies of the victims, but I cannot confirm the exact number of fatalities. Among the deceased were a pregnant woman and some children.”

Firefighters are still battling to put off the raging fire as of the time of filing the report.
