The Peoples Democratic Party Vice-Chairman, South-South, Chief Dan Orbih, yesterday said the current PDP led by Governor Godwin Obaseki and his chosen candidate, Asue Ighodalo, cannot lead Edo, adding that the PDP legacy group would vote for a candidate who would represent people of the state.
Orbih stated this at his country home in Ogbona, Etsako Central local government area of the state, during the Edo North PDP (Legacy) leaders/stakeholders meeting.
He lamented that all is not well with the current Edo PDP under Governor Obaseki, even as he insisted the Governor’s preferred candidate, Asue Ighodalo, is not the way forward for the party in the 2024 polls.
According to him, the PDP legacy group is the foundation of PDP anchored on unity, fairness, justice and equity saying that since Obaseki came into the party in 2020 he abandoned the group who worked and voted for his re-election.
Orbih said, “In 2020, I went round the 192 Wards of Edo to campaign for Obaseki, preaching the message of hope and trust, assuring the people that Obaseki is the man. In our campaigns, we made promises to Edo people. But today, the Governor has betrayed that trust given to him by the people.
“Let no man be deceived, all is not well with Edo State PDP. The people have gathered here today to ask and know what’s the way forward? In this upcoming election, it is about Edo and the future of the state. To determine the future of Edo State.”
The PDP National Vice-Chairman, however, said he stands with the people who have declared they are not happy with the current situation of the party and the state under Obaseki, adding, “Now is the time to prevent self-inflicted complaints in the future.”
