Delta State Government (DTSG) has reaffirmed its commitment towards efficient, effective and quality health care delivery in the state, particularly maternal and child health.
The State commissioner for health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, said this at the weekend in Owa-Alero in Ika North East local government area of the State during the grand finale of a week-long activities marking the first anniversary of the establishment of Mother and Child hospital and Advanced Diagnostic Center in the area.
Dr. Onojaeme, while saying that quality health care is one of the priority responsibilities of government, noted that the State Government is committed to ensuring that Deltans get the best as encapsulated in the M.O.R.E agenda of the current Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.
While paying glowing tribute to the immediate past Governor of the State,Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for the initiative in establishing the hospital and the diagnostic center, the Commissioner noted that the current administration would continue to give priority attention to the health sector in the State.
He said, “I am happy to join you in celebrating the first anniversary of this hospital and the advanced diagnostic center.
“This is a new hospital and the brain child of the immediate past Governor of the State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa. I am pleased to inform Deltans that this current administration is keen at continuing from where the former Governor stopped.
“We want to expand the system and see how most of our health indices will improve particularly mother and child health.
“This hospital is basically for mother and child even though we intend to expand into other specialties. For the past one year, it is on record that you have done well, keeping faith with the vision of the State government in establishing this health facility.
“We are aware that your patient load is increasing by the day and that is indeed, commendable. This current administration of Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori will do MORE to maintain the standard and thus; expand it because, the health needs of our people is our primary responsibility” the commissioner said.
Earlier in his address, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Hospital and Advanced Diagnostic Center, Dr. Martins Egbase said that the staff and management of the hospital is poised at scaling up their service delivery in order to justify the State government’s huge financial commitment at the hospital.
While thanking God for seeing them through the first one year as an institution, the CMD, said that the staff of the hospital are now better equipped for the tasks ahead given the series of training and workshops that featured as part of activities marking the weeklong event
High point of the event, The Pointer reports, was the cutting of the anniversary cake just as staff were exposed to series of trainings and workshops.
