The Osun State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, elected Adewale Egbedun, a 38-year-old first-timer representing the Odo-Otin constituency, as the new Speaker of the state parliament.

This followed the dissolution of the 26-member 7th Assembly and proclamation of the 8th parliament for legislative business by the state governor, Sen. Ademola Adeleke.

Meanwhile, Akinyode Oyewusi (Ife North constituency), emerged as the Deputy Speaker at the inaugural sitting of the 8th Assembly presided over by the Clerk of the House, Simeone Amusan.

Governor Adeleke, his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, former Osun governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Osun Chief Judge, Mrs Adepele Ojo and other top government functionaries witnessed the ceremony.

In his proclamation address, Governor Adeleke appealed for the support of the state parliament to achieve his five-goal development agenda of good governance for the state.

Adeleke said that since the executive and overwhelming members of the legislature belonged to the same political party, the two arms should work towards the same goal of good governance and providing the people with the dividends of democracy.
