The vigorous campaigns of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State paid off, yesterday, with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state claiming majority seats in the March 18, 2023 House of Assembly election.

With the tenure of the incumbent Governor Obaseki still running, having won re-election for a second term in 2020, Edo is not ready for another gubernatorial election until 2024.

metrowatchxtra gathered that the ruling party has won 12 seats out of the 21 state constituencies’ results so far declared for the poll.

Edo Assembly is a 24-member state parliament.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is said to have won eight seats so far, with Labour Party (LP) clinching on to one seat.

Results for two constituencies are being awaited, with that of Egor declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission. A fresh poll is expected to take place in about four areas of the local council.
