The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has reportedly tendered a resignation letter.

He resigned during plenary on Monday August 17, 2026.

It was gathered that lawmaker, Osawmonyi Atu, representing Orhiownmon 1 constituency, has been appointed the Speaker of the House.

Atu was until now the Deputy Speaker of the house.

Blessing Agbebaku represents Owan West Constituency.

He was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and defeated the All Progressives Congress, APC, in January 2025.

Details of the impeachment were still sketchy at the time of this report.
