Genesis 17:1-2. Exodus 3-4. Daniel 3.
Deliver me, O LORD from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man.
Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war. They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adder’s poison is under their lips. Selah.
Keep me O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man, who have purposed to overthrow my goings.
Psalms 140:1-4.
Many of us will confess that last year was unusually different from other years in several ways. Particularly for those living in Nigeria, it was a year wherein the elements of wickedness: poor governance, banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, violent criminalities, killings and corruption as well as inflation, high cost of living, massive unemployment, political violence and all manners of irresponsible behaviours by both state and non state actors reigned supreme. There was enough strife and strive among the people.
Given these atrocious developments, many hopes were dashed, ambitions were crashed, with pain , sorrow and disappointments trailing all around. Many committed suicide because they couldn’t bear it any longer. Yet, none of these developments is that new , as the Bible tells us that there’s nothing new under the SUN. Indeed, there’s nothing new on earth because the heart of man devises evil from the days of Adam, until now and will so remain until Jesus’ Second Coming to take away His saints. And then judgement upon the rest of the world. Hebrews 9:27.
In the light of these developments, what are the options available to mankind?
Shouldn’t man seek help in God? Indeed, man needs the help of God to overcome his myriad of problems and challenges as we see them today across the world. Of a fact, man can’t help himself hence the need to depend upon a DEPENDABLE God.: The God with whom there’s no variableness, nor any shadow of turning. That is the reason why you need to put your trust in Him. No doubt, He’s the Almighty God.
In Genesis 17:1, God appeared unto Abraham, and introduced Himself as the Almighty God. By that God wants mankind to understand that He’s the sole owner of power and might and authority. He’s the One who can do, and also undo.
So that when a man trusts Him with the affairs of his life, he also enjoys the privileges associated with His Almightiness. Abraham experienced God’s Almightiness when He made him father of many nations. And the father of faith. Only an Almighty God can do it.
In Exodus 3: 7ff; God appeared unto Moses as the Self -Existing God. The God that was neither made nor created. The God who is , Who was, and Who is to come. He demonstrated His self – existing power and might when He devastated the entire Egypt, drowning them in the sea, and making them to know that there’s a God who rules and reigns in the affairs of men.
Also in 1 Samuel 2, God appeared unto Hannah as the giver of life, when He gave her conception. And prophet Samuel was born.
AND HANNAH prayed, and said, my heart rejoiceth in the LORD: mine horn is exalted in the LORD: and my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee : neither is there any rock like our God.
1 Samuel 2:1-2.
Given these scenarios, what should the believer do?
The LORD is near you. The LORD is near you to make confessions unto Him. And to make good the crooked way through repentance and sacrifice and restoration. According to Him, if any man is thirsty, let him come to the Cross for mercy and forgiveness of sin. Matthew 28: 18-20.
Yes, on mount Calvary, sin is judged and forgiven. Will you come to Calvary today? For the remission of your sins?
Happy Sunday. God bless.
