President Muhammadu Buhari will Saturday night meet with presidential hopefuls on the platform of his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to reports, the president is expected to communicate his preferred 2023 presidential candidate at the meeting.
The meeting is slated for 8pm at the presidential villa, Abuja.
Buhari had on Tuesday, in Abuja, met with APC governors, where he solicited the support of the governors and other stakeholders of the party in picking his successor.
It is believed that the president’s choice will be among Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ahmad Lawan, Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbonnaya Onu, Kayode Fayemi and Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba.
Meanwhile, the APC screening panel has shortlisted 13 out of the 23 presidential aspirants for participation in the primary election of the party slated for Monday.
Those included in the cleared list of aspirants are APC national leader, Bola Tinubu; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi; Senate President Ahamd Lawan, Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi, former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba; and Ogbonnaya Onu, former Technology Minister.
Others are Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi, Ibikunle Amosun, former governor of Ogun; David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi, Muhammad Badaru, governor of Jigawa; Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom; and Tein Jack-Rich, an oil magnate.
