Presidential hopeful and former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has approached President Muhammadu Buhari to help prevail on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to stop further harassment of his person.

Okorocha who was at the Presidential Villa on Thursday said there is an existing court order restraining the EFCC from prosecuting him, hence President Buhari should caution the anti-graft agency against crossing the line.

News Express reports that shortly after Okorocha publicly declared intention to contest for the presidency, the EFCC filed a 17-count fraud charge against him at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

In the charges, the former Governor was alleged to have embezzled N2.9billion in public funds through connivance with some individuals and companies.

The former governor who currently represents Imo West Senatorial District in the 9th Senate also wants the EFCC to release his international passport.

He hinged his decision to meet with Buhari to intervene on his behalf, on the fact that he wants justice to be done on his matter.

Okorocha claimed it was the responsibility of Buhari as the President of Nigeria to ensure that justice is served on all citizens including this matter.

He also accused the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, of being behind security breaches in his state, claiming that during his tenure as Governor for 8 years, he was able to manage the security situation effectively.

“Whatever security breaches you are seeing in Imo State, whether IPOB or general crimes should be blamed on the incumbent government because it is the failure of leadership,” he stated.
