President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday assured that the killers of Dowen College, Lekki Lagos pupil, Sylvester Oromoni, will not be spared.

The 12-year-old died following an alleged assault by his senior colleagues.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu, the President said: “For several days now, the nation has been gripped by the news of the tragic incident at Dowen College, in Lagos with morbid details constantly emerging of how our young son, Sylvester Oromoni (Junior) met his death.

“I condemn the killing of Sylvester, one of our bright youngsters doing excellently in school, bringing joy to the family.

“If this incident is truly arising from bullying or cultism, I assure that it must act as a trigger leading to a permanent solution to this recurring problem.

“I share the anger and grief up and down the country following this incident.

“On behalf of my family and I, and the government of the federation, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the Oromoni family, the government and people of Lagos State and give the firm assurance that this incident will be thoroughly investigated and the appropriate punishment meted out to all those who are culpable.”

The President urged the Police to continue the ongoing investigation until they get to the root of the matter in order for the law to take its course.

He assured that justice will be done, no matter who is involved.

Some parents gathered in front of the school premises late Wednesday to hold a candlelight procession for the late Oromoni.

The procession which began at 6:30 pm saw the parents wearing black T-shirts with the inscription ‘Dowen Parents Mourn’ and ‘Love for Sylvester’.

One of the concerned parents, Mrs Oluwaseun Ajila, who spoke on behalf of the others, said most of them were traumatised by the news.

She told The journalists: “I am in shock and I am gradually coming out of the shock considering that Sylvester and my daughter are fun mates.

“They entered Dowen College together at the same time. My trauma has been that it would have been anybody’s son or daughter.

“I just really want to put the message out there that you have not been able to hear our voice loud and clear earlier does not mean in any way that Dowen parents support the act or event that has happened.

“Justice for Sylvester is justice for all and we as parents desire to get justice for Sylvester.”
