A cross section of Abakaliki residents of Ebonyi on Thursday applauded the Federal Government over the lifting of the suspension on Twitter operations in the country.
The residents made their commendation in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki.
NAN recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari, had approved the lifting of the suspension on Twitter operations in the country.
Mr Kashifu Inuwa, Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), announced the approval in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday.
Mrs Ngozi Ebenyi, a civil servant and Twitter User, said it was a welcome development that would help small businesses recover lost revenue.
Ebenyi stressed that the technology and platform would be helpful if users maintain ethical behaviour and refrain from promoting dangerous information on the platform.
“Though, it may take time but with creative strategy, it is possible,” Ebenyi said.
Mr Uchenna Alabueze, a resident said the development was good for the country as it made communication easier and smoother for the people.
Alabueze said people did not have to use Virtual Private Network to access Twitter anymore but practice good behavior in line with agreements established.
Another Twitter User Mr Steven Agboeze, said that the social networking service would improve social interaction, possibilities and economic choices if users used it efficiently for development.
NAN recalls that the suspension of Twitter operations in the country took effect from June 5, 2021, due to issues bordering on national security and cohesion as well as the effects of the abuse of the platform.
The suspension of the social media platform was followed by the constitution of a seven-man Presidential Committee to engage with Twitter.
