The suspended Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Edo State, Hon. Samson Osagie, has denied allegations of financial misconduct following his recent suspension by the state Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

In a statement issued early Thursday morning personally signed by him, Osagie said he was involved in any financial infractions alongside the suspended Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Damian Lawani.

He also criticized the state government’s decision, as, according to him, he was never confronted with any allegations before the suspension was publicly announced.

“Let me state unequivocally that I am not and was never involved in any financial dealing with anyone nor committed any financial infraction of any kind,” Osagie said.

“I was also not confronted with the said allegations by anyone before my suspension was announced,” the suspended Attorney General added.

The Commissioner for Justice, however, affirmed his readiness to defend himself and protect his reputation, which he said he has built over the years.

Osagie’s suspension was announced in an official government statement on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, citing allegations of “grave official and financial infractions.”

The state government has since set up an investigative committee to probe the matter, with both Osagie and Lawani remaining suspended until the conclusion of the inquiry.
