The hues and cries over the recent hike in tuition fees in some of the tertiary institutions in Delta State may be getting some positive attention as critical stakeholders in the State are already brainstorming on the matter.
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori disclosed this in Asaba, the State capital when the leadership of the Students Union Government (SUG), Delta State University, Abraka paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
According to the Speaker, following agitation by the various Student bodies over the increase, Stakeholders in the State education sector which also includes members of the State House of Assembly committee on education are already meeting in relation to the increase.
While assuring that reports of that meeting would be out anytime soon, the Speaker enjoined the Students to be calm, stressing that the administration of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa means well for the entire Deltans, particularly the Students.
He however, noted that despite the uproar arising from the recent increase in the tuition fees across some of the tertiary institutions in the State, Delta State, according to the Speaker remains one of the states with the lowest tuition fee in the country.
Earlier in his remark, the leader of the delegation and president, SUG, Delta State University, Abraka, Comrade Cyprian Odiffili told the Speaker that they were in his office to plead with him to use his good offices to ensure downward review of the fees just as they also noted they were in Asaba to throw their weight behind the Governorship ambition of the Speaker.
Also in Asaba, the Speaker played host to members of the Delta State House of Assembly Service commission.
Receiving the delegation led by its Chairman, Mrs Cordelia Anyangwu, the Speaker stressed the need for increased discipline among staff of the State House of Assembly work force just as he pledged the legislators’ continued support and synergy with the commission.
