Nigerian Senate, Defection Continues! APC, PDP Lose Two Senators to NNPP, LP

By Ogochukwu Isioma

The Senate, on Wednesday, resolved to investigate allegations of corruption associated with the operations and management of the Federal Government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

In addition, the Senate at plenary on Wednesday, vowed to look into the disputes on the preferred payment platform (IPPIS or UTAS) for staff of Nigerian universities.

While the federal government prefers IPPIS, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had insisted on University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) during its last industrial action.

The ASUU’s preferred payment option, UTAS, was created as an alternative to the IPPIS that the Federal government uses to pay its workers in various sectors of the economy.

In fact, about 711 ministries, departments and agencies of government in Nigeria are on the IPPIS platform, but ASUU insists on being the only standing out.
