The Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State has been affected by a tanker explosion that diverted traffic.

According to the report, the collision took place between Fidiwo bridge and Foursquare at around 07:30 on Friday.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC, confirmed the event and claimed three people were involved, but no injuries or fatalities were reported.

FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, Florence Okpe, said the crash involved an unregistered Daf tanker and one other vehicle.

“The suspected cause of the crash was wrongful overtaking, leading to scratch of two vehicles resulting in sparks of fire.

“The fire service men were contacted and traffic diverted immediately, with the crash scene cordoned off to avoid a secondary crash,” Okpe said.

She cited Ahmed Umar, Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ogun, as saying that anytime drivers wish to overtake, they should constantly assess if doing so is legal and safe.

Umar further recommended that drivers use caution and follow basic traffic laws.
