“Yiaga, a democracy observer group, had disowned and rejected claims by Oyetola’s team that its election analysis report confirmed a win for the APC at the July 16th governorship election, calling such assertion a misrepresentation and fabrication.”

PRESS STATEMENT

The Osun state Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rebuked Mr Gboyega Oyetola and his team over the Yiaga scandal which it described as another failed bid by the All Progressive Congress (APC) to undermine the electoral victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke.

Yiaga, a democracy observer group, had disowned and rejected claims by Oyetola’s team that its election analysis report confirmed a win for the APC at the July 16th governorship election, calling such assertion a misrepresentation and fabrication.

The statement from the PDP reads as follows: “Instead of retracting misleading assertions and apologising to the public and the judiciary for making conclusive statement on a matter that is sub judice, Oyetola’s team is busy seeking for a scapegoat, attempting to drag the PDP into the mess.

“Mr Oyetola should face up with a procured propaganda agenda that has backfired.

“The reality as it is today is that another lie of the APC to deny peoples’ will has been busted. We don’t know what happened between Yiaga and APC but we see a deal gone sour.

“The election observer group had erred by producing a report which was largely seen as partisan with its more than 70 percent focus on Osun results when the report is supposed to be about Osun and Ekiti results.

“The group also delved into technical electoral matters in which it lacks competency and more so without adequate balance and peer review, leading to conclusions that portray it as engaging in hatchet job.

“By immediately claiming the report to justify its petition at the Tribunal, the APC also gave hint of collaborative venture between it and Yiaga, making the whole incident a scandalous development in the otherwise laudable life of the election advocacy group.

“The public can now see clearly the undisguised shamelessness of the APC and Mr Oyetola to truncate the will of the people by lying without remorse, by cooking up phantom postulations, by engineering false security reports and by lately engaging in ungodly rituals as recently uncovered in some parts of the state.

“At every stage of their evil plots, God prevails by making all such plans come to naught. The Yiaga mess is the latest.

“For us in PDP, we had adopted a wait and see attitude as we are convinced that sponsored observer analysis from a body without statutory mandate and with an obviously imbalance report cannot stop the will of the people from prevailing.

“The July 16 victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke is a product of transparently conducted election adjudged to be free and fair by the local and global electoral community.

“We are therefore resilient in our confidence that the judiciary will do the needful and affirm the electoral victory of Senator Adeleke at the right time.

“We are using this medium to re-assure the people of Osun state of our commitment to protect the governorship mandate and ensure Senator Ademola Adeleke is sworn in as the Governor of Osun state come November 27 by the special grace of God”, the statement concluded.
