A 25-year-old man, Sanni Abacha, was on Thursday charged before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged fraud and causing a breach of peace.
The defendant, whose address was not stated, is facing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 7, at about 12:00 a.m. at the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti.
Oriyomi alleged that the defendant fraudulently converted the sum of N700,000, belonging to one Mr Salisu Abdullahi of Idolofin Street in Ado-Ekiti.
According to him, the defendant also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by constituting nuisance in public place.
He said that the defendant was consequently arrested by the police.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 181(1)(d), 295, 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Salawu Hassan, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until June 25, for hearing. (NAN)
