The All Progressives Congress, APC, has given N52 million to the survivors and families of the 37 miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State.
Niger State Governor Umaru Bago announced this on Tuesday when he received the National Working Committee of the party, led by its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, on a condolence visit over the d£aths.
Bago thanked the APC leadership for the visit and the money given to the affected families and survivors.
He said a state committee headed by his Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, will work with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouk Bahago, to make sure the donation gets to the people it is meant for.
Earlier, Yilwatda passed on the condolences of the APC to the government and people of Niger over the incident.
He described it as a hard time for the state, noting that Niger has recently faced several security challenges.
He said it is not a good moment for the country, especially Niger State, which has been battered by many troubles, mainly security threats
He assured the state that the party hearts and prayers are with it, and prayed that God strengthens and comforts the affected families.
According to him, all of this will pass.
Yilwatda said the party believes evil will not win over the goodness of the people.
He praised Bago for how he handled the incident and promised the party support for his administration.
The national chairman then led members of the NWC to the palace of the Emir of Minna for a similar condolence visit.
The Emir thanked the APC leadership for the visit and the financial support to the families affected.
