The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has said that if elected in 2027, he would restore the fuel subsidy removed by the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The activist made the remark in a post shared on his official X handle on Monday.
Sowore also said his administration would implement a minimum wage of N500,000 per month for Nigerian workers if elected.
“Attempts to water down our proposal for a N500,000 monthly living wage with funny statistics will not change our position.
“Under our government, Nigerian workers will earn a minimum wage of at least N500,000 monthly. We will also restore the petrol subsidy.
“Workers deserve wages they can actually live on,” the AAC presidential candidate wrote.
There has been a nationwide debate over the removal of the fuel subsidy, with some presidential candidates, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, promising to restore it if elected.
Atiku has proposed restoring a form of subsidy targeted at domestic refiners.
However, contrary to Atiku’s position, the presidential candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, and the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Seyi Makinde, have said they would not return to the old subsidy regime if elected.
Makinde has instead proposed cheaper domestic crude pricing for Nigerian refineries.
