The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, and the Nigeria Police Force to grant Adeniyi Adeyemi unimpeded access to lawyers of his choice.

Adeyemi is linked to the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu issued the order on Thursday while ruling on an ex parte application in a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Adeyemi through his lawyer, M.B. Abdulazeez.

The court ordered that for as long as Adeyemi remains in custody, he should be allowed access to legal practitioners of his choosing at all reasonable hours.

Adeyemi had also sought other reliefs, including bail, release from detention and access to medical treatment by health practitioners of his choice.

His legal team further asked the court to restrain the respondents, including their officers and agents, from interrogating him or requiring him to make, adopt or sign any statement without a lawyer of his choice being present.

However, Justice Egwuatu declined to grant the other reliefs at the ex parte stage, holding that the respondents should first be heard.

The judge subsequently gave the AGF and the police 72 hours to show cause why the remaining reliefs sought by Adeyemi should not be granted.

Adeyemi had earlier been declared wanted in connection with allegations surrounding the purported PFIPC scandal.
