President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, effective August 27, 2026.

Enitan, who is from Osun State, will succeed Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service upon attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.

According to a statement on Wednesday by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the new Head of Service is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.

He has served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months across the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.

The Presidency said Enitan brings extensive institutional experience and a deep understanding of the Federal Civil Service to the new role, with President Tinubu tasking him with consolidating ongoing reforms, strengthening professionalism and improving efficiency across the service.

Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service, Mrs Walson-Jack, for her years of service and contributions to reforms and innovation within the Civil Service.

The President urged Enitan to build a professional, merit-driven, accountable and responsive Civil Service capable of effectively supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a B.Sc. in Finance and Banking in 1988.
