Gbajabiamila Threatens ₦10bn Defamation Suit against Alleged PFIPC Convener

Femi Gbajabiamila Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has threatened a ₦10 billion defamation lawsuit against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who describes himself as the convener of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), over allegations of murder and bribery.

In a letter signed by his lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), Gbajabiamila demanded that Adeyemi immediately remove all videos in which he allegedly made defamatory claims against him.

The letter also called on Adeyemi to publish a full retraction and apology in at least five national newspapers and across all social media platforms where a press conference he addressed on June 26 was circulated.

Pinheiro described the allegations made during the press conference as “false, malicious, reckless and entirely without factual foundation,” adding that they were intended to portray Gbajabiamila as “corrupt, morally bankrupt, and a murderer.”

According to the lawyer, Gbajabiamila and Adeyemi have never met or had any form of interaction, making the allegations baseless.

“It is even more disturbing to our client that you resorted to defaming him through your press statements after a criminal charge had been filed against you,” the letter stated.

Pinheiro warned that failure to comply with the demands within 72 hours would leave Gbajabiamila with no option but to commence legal proceedings without further notice.

The legal threat follows a dispute over the status of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.

In June, the Presidency distanced itself from the PFIPC, insisting that no such body exists under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued on June 11, Gbajabiamila said neither his office nor the Presidency had appointed Adeyemi to any position in the organisation.

However, at a press conference on June 26, Adeyemi questioned the Presidency’s position, arguing that the PFIPC was reflected in the 2026 budget despite claims that it does not exist.

Adeyemi also alleged that Gbajabiamila received ₦400 million through a proxy and demanded an additional ₦200 million to facilitate his appointment. He further called for an investigation into the death of Babatunde Tanimola, whom he described as an intermediary, and alleged that attempts had been made on his life.

The Presidency has denied any association with the PFIPC, while Gbajabiamila has dismissed Adeyemi’s allegations as false and defamatory.
