President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his victory in the Ekiti State governorship election, describing the outcome as a clear endorsement of his administration’s performance and leadership.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also commended the people of Ekiti State for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process.
“The President commends the people of Ekiti State for their peaceful and orderly conduct, and for reposing their trust in Governor Oyebanji,” the statement said.
Tinubu also praised security agencies for maintaining law and order during the election, which he noted contributed to a peaceful and credible exercise.
He further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to sustain its efforts in delivering transparent and credible elections ahead of future polls across the country.
“He charges the Independent National Electoral Commission to continue to invest in conducting peaceful, free, fair and credible elections as we approach the Osun governorship election in August and the general election next year,” the statement added.
The President noted that Oyebanji’s victory is historic, as he becomes the first governor in Ekiti State’s history to secure consecutive electoral victories.
“With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back,” the statement noted.
Tinubu attributed the governor’s success to achievements recorded during his first term, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and rural development.
“Governor Oyebanji’s first term was marked by significant strides in infrastructure, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development under the BAO agenda,” he said.
According to the President, the renewed mandate reflects public confidence in continuity and people-centred governance.
“The renewed mandate is therefore a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability and people-centred governance,” he stated.
Tinubu urged the governor to remain inclusive and magnanimous in victory as he begins another term in office.
“The President urges Governor Oyebanji to remain magnanimous in victory and to carry all Ekiti people along as he consolidates on his achievements in the next four years,” the statement said.
He also commended other candidates who participated in the election for embracing the democratic process and called on them to support efforts aimed at advancing the development of the state.
“It is now time to rally round Governor Oyebanji in the task of taking Ekiti to the next level of governance,” the President said.
Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with the Ekiti State Government to deliver greater dividends of democracy and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also prayed for wisdom, strength and good health for the governor as he begins a new term of service to the people of Ekiti State.
