The Member representing Akoko-Edo Constituency II in the Edo State House of Assembly and Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sports, Hon. Donald Okogbe, has congratulated Edo Queens Football Club on their emergence as champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and their qualification for continental competition.
In a congratulatory message, Okogbe described the feat as a remarkable achievement and evidence to the hard work, discipline, resilience, and determination of the players, coaching crew, management, and fans who contributed to the club’s success throughout the season.
According to him, the victory has once again placed Edo State at the forefront of sports development in Nigeria and demonstrated the immense potential of women’s football in the country.
The lawmaker commended the Edo State Government for its continued investment in sports and youth development, noting that the support provided to athletes and sports institutions has continued to yield positive results and bring glory to the state.
Okogbe urged the team not to rest on its laurels but to remain focused and determined as it prepares to represent Nigeria on the continental stage.
He charged the players to approach the African competition with the same winning mentality that earned them the league title, expressing confidence that they have what it takes to bring continental glory to Edo State and Nigeria.
“Edo Queens have made us proud by winning the NWFL title. The next challenge is to conquer Africa and bring home the continental trophy. I have every confidence that this team possesses the quality, talent, and determination to achieve that goal,” he said.
Okogbe wished the team a successful continental campaign and assured them of the support and prayers of the people of Edo State as they embark on their quest for African football glory.
