President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, on his election as Chairman of the United Nations General Assembly Fifth Committee on Budget and Administration.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the appointment as a significant achievement for both Nigeria and the diplomat, particularly at a period when the United Nations is undertaking major financial and institutional reforms.

The President noted that Ibrahim’s emergence comes at a critical time for the global body as it seeks to strengthen accountability, efficiency and long-term sustainability.

“Your election to chair this important committee within weeks of official resumption at the UN validates your wealth of experience in public service, diplomacy, business leadership, and governance,” Tinubu said.

The President highlighted Ibrahim’s experience as a member of the Senate Committee on Budget and Appropriation and Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Relations, saying the roles have prepared him for the responsibility of leading one of the UN’s most important committees.

“Your previous roles in the private sector and public service distinctly equip you to provide the steady, strategic leadership required for this important responsibility,” he stated.

Tinubu also praised the ambassador’s academic and professional background, describing him as a respected legal scholar with expertise in international taxation and business administration.

“Through your background as a respected legal scholar with commensurate expertise in International Taxation and Business Administration, you have consistently demonstrated intellectual acumen and a deep understanding of global governance and financial systems,” the President said.

According to him, Ibrahim’s knowledge and experience would be valuable in advancing fiscal management, institutional efficiency and sustainable growth within the United Nations system.

The President expressed confidence that the ambassador would justify the confidence reposed in him by the international community and further enhance Nigeria’s reputation on the global stage.

“I am confident that Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim’s experience and unwavering commitment to excellence will justify his selection as our Permanent Representative and make Nigeria proud in the work of the Fifth Committee and in support of the broader objectives of the United Nations,” Tinubu added.

He concluded by congratulating the diplomat on what he described as a remarkable accomplishment.

“Congratulations once again on this remarkable achievement and on the confidence reposed in you by the international community,” the President said.
