Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has said he should be involved in deciding who becomes Ali Khamenei’s successor as Iran’s next leader following the late supreme leader’s de@th.

Trump, speaking in an interview with Axios on Thursday, said the son of the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who is widely viewed as the likely successor, is unacceptable to him.

According to him, it is important to appoint someone who will bring harmony and peace to Iran.

He stated, “They are wasting their time. Khamenei’s son is a lightweight. I have to be involved in the appointment, like with Delcy [Rodriguez] in Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Middle Eastern countries have told European officials they fear a civil war could erupt in Iran as the conflict between Tehran and the United Statesand Israel intensifies, EU foreign chief Kaja Kallas said Thursday.

“When we talk to the countries in the region, they are also worried about civil wars inside Iran because of the regime’s leadership and what is going on there,” Kallas said ahead of a video conference with EU foreign ministers and representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The European Union wants to advance a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
