President Bola Tinubu has removed Olukayode Egbetokun from office as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Eagle Online has reported.

According to the online newspaper, the president has replaced Egbetokun with Olatunji Disu, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

The newspaper also reported that several sources hinted on Tuesday afternoon that the announcement would be in a matter of minutes.

Disu was recently promoted to the rank of AIG and transferred to head the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos.

Outgoing IGP Egbetokun’s tenure was extended by President Tinubu in 2024.

Born on September 4, 1964, he was due for retirement in September 2024, but for the extension.
