We’ve Petitioned IGP, DSS, Labour Party Wants Abure, others Arrested Immediately

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party (LP) has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the party’s former National Chairman, Julius Abure, along with other members of the faction under his leadership.

Addressing a world press conference at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Monday, the Nenadi Usman-led National Working Committee, NWC, wondered why Abure and his group are still allowed to go around fomenting trouble within the party.

The LP leadership accused Abure and others of violently attacking the party’s secretariat, threatening to kill anyone that tries to stop them and destroying properties and bill boards bearing the face of the Interim National Chairman, Nenadi Usman.

The party said that laptops, sensitive materials and financial documents were taken away from the secretariat by alleged Abure-led thugs.

The LP said it has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, the Department of State Services, DSS, and other security agencies to enforce the law by arresting and prosecuting Julius Abure and his co-travellers.

“We demand for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Julius Abure and others for criminal invasion, contempt of court, impersonation and threats to constitutional democracy in Nigeria.

“Nigeria is a constitutional democracy governed by laws, not a chaotic arena of impunity, terrorism and brigandage as imagined by Mr. Julius Abure and others.

“The supremacy of the constitution and the finality of judicial decisions remain the bedrock of our republic. In strict observance of the rule of law, the party’s leadership formally wrote to the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, and other relevant security agencies, requesting lawful enforcement of the court’s judgment and security coverage for a peaceful resumption and operational takeover of the national secretariat and the security agencies responded professionally and provided coverage on Tuesday, 10th February 2026, between 11am and 3pm,” the party said.

The LP said that the operation by Abure and his associates “lasted for over 30 minutes” and they made away with “sensitive party documents, financial records, official registration, materials, laptops, desktops, phones and other critical assets”.

“This confirms a disturbing pattern of impunity and disregard for lawful authority. To confirm that they had carried out a criminal operation at the party’s national secretariat, they made posts in the night of the operation through various social media handles, practically indicting themselves.

“There subsequent press statements issued from an undisclosed hideout are a gross representation of facts and continued impersonation in defiance of binding judicial pronouncements and INEC’s position as a regulator of political party in Nigeria.”
