The Edo State chapter of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned its factional chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, to stop parading himself as the State Chairman of the party.
In a statement on Thursday, signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bob-Manuel Umoru, the Edo PDP described Aziegbemi’s “continued claim to the chairmanship” as “reckless, fraudulent, and deceptive.”
According to the statement, Aziegbemi no longer holds any legitimate position in the party, having lost his claim following the state congress held on October 5, 2025, which, the PDP said, “lawfully produced Barr. Nosa Ogieve-Okunbor as the authentic and duly elected State Chairman.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi is no longer and can never again be recognized as the Chairman of the Edo State Chapter of the PDP,” the statement read. “Any claim to the contrary is a deliberate falsehood intended to mislead the unsuspecting public.”
The party accused Aziegbemi of presiding over a period of “failures, internal crises, and electoral losses,” adding that his tenure left the PDP “a shadow of itself.”
“His era was one of political emptiness and moral bankruptcy,” the statement added. “Under his watch, the PDP lost every major elective position, while he consistently failed to deliver his own polling unit and ward.”
The Edo PDP further alleged that Aziegbemi had since defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing his continued association with the PDP as “an act of impersonation and contempt.”
“Having defected to the ADC with his band of political jobbers and opportunists, Dr. Aziegbemi has no moral or legal right whatsoever to speak, act, or represent the PDP in any capacity,” the party said.
The statement warned that any individual, group, or institution engaging in correspondence or transactions with Dr. Aziegbemi on behalf of the PDP does so “at their own risk.”
“The Edo PDP therefore issues this final warning: Dr. Tony Aziegbemi must immediately desist from parading himself as Chairman of the PDP in Edo State or face the full weight of the law,” Umoru stated.
Reaffirming its leadership structure, the Edo PDP emphasized that the party is now “firmly under the leadership of Barr. Nosa Ogieve-Okunbor,” pledging renewed commitment to unity, discipline, and the rebuilding of the party’s honour and integrity.
