Power has been restored in Abuja after Nigeria’s national power grid collapsed on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

However, other parts of the country are still in total darkness.

Recall that the grid collapsed at about 11:30 am on Wednesday, disrupting supply to several distribution companies (DisCos) across the federation.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), in a public notice shared on its 𝕏 handle, confirmed the incident, stating that the outage was caused by a loss of supply from the national grid.

“Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 am today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas,” the company said.

AEDC assured customers that work was ongoing to restore supply, adding: “Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power is restored once the grid is stabilised.”

Hours later, the Nigerian National Grid announced that restoration had commenced.

According to updates on its 𝕏 page, 495 megawatts had been restored to some DisCos as of Wednesday afternoon.

Breakdown of restored load includes:

Abuja Disco – 150 MW

Eko Disco – 80 MW

Ikeja Disco – 80 MW

Ibadan Disco – 50 MW

Benin Disco – 40 MW

Enugu Disco – 40 MW

Kano Disco – 35 MW

Kaduna Disco – 25 MW

However, supply remained at zero megawatts for Port Harcourt, Jos and Yola DisCos at the time of filing this report.
