The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to disband the Anambra State security outfit popularly known as Agunechemba.

This comes amid the widely reported assault on a female corps member by operatives of the security outfit also codenamed Udo Ga-Achi.

There has been outrage across the country after the gun-wielding operatives were seen brutalizing a female member of the NYSC, identified as Ms. Jennifer Elobor.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he said only the immediate disbandment of the outfit will assuage the anger of Nigerians.

Okwu said the notoriety of the local security outfit had gone on for quite long, stressing that “before now, there have been several reports of how they violate the rights of people, and even engage in trial by ordeal.

“They are said to have brutalized several innocent people in the state, and engaged in jungle justice for far too long.

“Many rights organisations, including Intersociety, have been crying out for the atrocities committed by these operatives but nobody listened.

“The case of Ms Jennifer Elobor is one of the many such atrocities and it has put to public view the kind of thing going on in Anambra State.”

Okwu then urged Governor Soludo to immediately disband the group, stressing that “they should go back to the drawing board by organizing a fresh recruitment process, which should be followed up by a training.

“There should also be a compulsory drug test for anyone to be recruited to avoid a repeat of what Nigerians watched in this video.”

“Having said this, we demand open trial of the perpetrators by the Nigeria police; there should be no sacred cows.

“The victim should also be paid adequate compensation by the Anambra State Government,” Okwu demanded.
