The Edo State Government has announced the cancellation of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise originally scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025.
In a statement on Monday signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., the cancellation was attributed to the Nationwide Polio Immunisation Campaign which is set to take place on the same day.
According to him, the overlap of both events could hinder the free movement of health officials and other participants in the immunisation campaign.
Ikhilor noted that unrestricted movement is essential for the successful delivery of the health exercise, prompting the decision to cancel the sanitation.
“Despite the cancellation, all Edo residents are encouraged to keep their immediate environments clean,” the statement urged, reaffirming the state’s commitment to public hygiene and environmental responsibility.
The state government emphasized its support for national health initiatives and expressed confidence in residents’ continued cooperation to maintain cleanliness in their communities, even in the absence of the monthly exercise.
