Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has paid a visit to Benue state.

He visited the state on Monday, June 16 to have a firsthand assessment of the security crisis in the state following a series of brutal attacks that claimed dozens of lives and displaced hundreds.

The IGP’s visit comes in the wake of a devastating assault on Yelwata community last Friday, where suspected herdsmen unleashed violence that left many de@d.

The attack is the latest in a disturbing wave of killings that have plagued the state in recent weeks. Benue, a key food-producing region in North Central Nigeria, has long been the epicenter of deadly clashes often attributed to tensions between farming communities and nomadic herders.

Egbetokun’s arrival follows a renewed directive by President Bola Tinubu, who on Sunday ordered security chiefs to take urgent and decisive steps to restore peace in the state.

“The latest news of wanton killings in Benue State is very depressing. We must not allow this bloodletting to continue unabated. Enough is now enough.

I have directed the security agencies to act decisively and arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict and prosecute them,” the President said.
