Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated his Akwa Ibom State counterpart, Pastor Umo Eno, on his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gov Okpebholo, who described the defection as historic, commended Eno’s “bold and courageous decision to align with the progressive ideals and national vision of the APC”, noting that this development will unlock greater opportunities for people of South South region.
According to him, this move demonstrates Eno’s profound commitment to the advancement and development of Akwa Ibom, ensuring the state’s seamless integration into the federal government’s developmental agenda under the Renewed Hope mantra of President Bola Tinubu.
“The decision by Governor Umo Eno to join the APC shows his foresight and dedication to the welfare of his people,” Governor Okpebholo noted. “It signifies a strategic alignment that will undoubtedly unlock greater opportunities, foster stronger collaborations, and accelerate the delivery of democratic dividends to the good people of Akwa Ibom State.”
Governor Okpebholo emphasized the importance of unity and synergy between States and the Federal Government for optimal progress. He expressed confidence that Governor Eno’s defection will strengthen the APC’s presence in the South South region and contribute significantly to national cohesion and development.
The Edo State Governor assured his Akwa Ibom counterpart of the unwavering support and cooperation of the Edo State Government and the entire APC family.
“Governor Okpebholo looks forward to working closely with Governor Eno to promote good governance, economic prosperity, and the overall well-being of the Nigerian people,” the statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua noted.
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State officially defected from the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday.
Eno’s officially confirmed his defection at a ceremony in Uyo, the state capital, which was attended by the chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, other APC Governors and chieftains of the ruling party.
Speaking during the event, Governor Eno declared that he is not joining the APC from a position of weakness but from a place of strength, emphasising the need to align Akwa Ibom State with politics at the federal level.
“We’re not joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength. We’re bringing value to Akwa Ibom State. We’ve come into the APC with a ministry of reconciliation,” he said.
