Simon Ekpa, a self-acclaimed prime minister of the Indigenous People of Biafra has dragged former ally, Ngozi Orabueze to court.

Ekpa sued Orabueze at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington.

Ekpa is asking the court to award reasonable financial penalties in punitive damages, attorney’s fees, costs and expenses against Orabueze.

The Peoples Gazette reports that the litigation stemmed from allegations regarding the creation of a parallel faction of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile and the hijacking of members’ database.

The lawsuit was filed by US-based lawyer, Arman Dabiri and named Orabueze as the first defendant.

Orabueze is being sued alongside Ada Ezeh, Diana Emeh Solomon Nkwocha, Ugbonna Christian Olejemah, Uchenna Objijiaku, and Ijeoma Eze, among other co-defendants.

Dabiri, according to the court filing, claimed to be suing on behalf of BRGIE and the group’s embattled leader, Ekpa, who is currently facing trial on terrorism charges in Finland.

He accused Orabueze of launching a hostile takeover of BRGIE, setting up a parallel government, stealing the databases and assets of IPOB members, and committing fraud.

Court documents revealed that the matter started in December 2024.

Recall that Ekpa remains in pre-trial detention in Finland for “public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent“.
