2027: APC Adopted Tinubu as Sole Candidate, Presidency Says

The Presidency has has reacted after the All Progressives Congress, APC, adopted President Bola Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

Explaining why the party members reached the conclusion, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said the APC leadership carried out a midterm assessment of Tinubu’s performance and agreed that he deserved another term based on his good works.

On Thursday, the APC National Assembly Caucus and the party’s governors’ forum all endorsed Tinubu for a second term following what they termed his good works.

Speaking at the APC National Summit in Abuja, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, said the party has adopted Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday night, Bwala said: “What happened in beauty to behold, it’s tapestry of organization and it goes to show that APC as a progressive party living to its creed.

“The problem that we used to have before now is that political parties come, win elections and they don’t sit down to access and re-access their performance. I’m sure you are aware of the performance indicators that the president set out for the ministers, this midterm is a performance assessment on the president himself.

“So, to submit yourself to that performance assessment to a large extent goes to show how development driven the president is.

“The event did not start today actually, before now, people were asked to review our promises and manifestos to the Nigerian people vis-a-vis our performance so far to see if the president has gotten to the point where he would deserve a second term.

“What happened is a party affair and that’s why it’s perfectly normal. You have to be able to decide within the party a direction, then you can come out to say this is what we think.

“It’s an expression of organization, beauty, and as a part of what the president has achieved that allowed the members to say we are giving him that opportunity which is obvious to all Nigerians.

“The word delivered means he has concluded the first term, he will be the first person to tell you that there are numbers of things that are yet to be seen. If you ask the question has the president performed? My answer will be a very big capital yes. And where I’m coming from, when the president took the oath of office, the situation and economy around Nigeria was very tight, people were buying naira with naira.

“States that could not pay salaries then, most of them are meeting up to the minimum wage, they are doing projects and most of them are even paying their debts, and all these happened because of increased revenue – that is because of the president.

“There is a misconception by anybody who wants to see what transpired as an engagement with Nigerians, it was a party affair – party affair at any given time, you can pass a vote of confidence – the party must do self introspection.

“What happened is not in any way suggesting to Nigerians that the party has done everything but what happened is our own internal examination before we bring our own external examiners who are the Nigerians.

“We have manifestos and things we wanted to do ranging from NELFUND to infrastructure to security and we know what the president has done so far, we looked at the two and arrived at the conclusion that given what we saw and he has done in two years, he deserves another time.”
