The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has dismissed no fewer than 12 of its personnel for misconduct between December 2023 and April 2025.

The dismissal took place on Tuesday and confirmed by the LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq in a statement on Thursday to commemorate the agency’s 25th anniversary.

He stated that 19 personnel had also been demoted, while 17 others were issued warning letters.

Taofiq said, “From December 2023 to date, 12 officers have been summarily dismissed for breaches of professional ethics, while 19 others have been demoted for misconduct.

“In addition, 17 personnel received stern warnings, and 12 were compelled to tender their resignations following investigations into infractions deemed incompatible with the global standards to which LASTMA aspires.”

Speaking on the 25th anniversary and the unveiling of an emblem, the General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the emblem as a representation of the enduring spirit of the agency.

He noted that under his leadership, the agency has continued to drive professionalism, efficiency, and discipline among its staff.

“LASTMA has, through steadfast dedication, resilience, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence, evolved into a formidable reference point in the management of traffic in Lagos State.

“The emblem we unveil today transcends its aesthetic representation and outlook. It encapsulates the enduring spirit of our institution, the hurdles we have surmounted, the laurels we have earned, and the unrelenting passion demonstrated by every officer who has adorned the LASTMA uniform with honour and distinction.

“It stands as an emblematic insignia, calling us to reaffirm our collective duty to fortify and expand the legacy meticulously built over the past twenty-five years,” he concluded.

Taofiq also noted that the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, unveiled the emblem for the agency’s 25th anniversary.

The statement quoted Giwa as saying that the 25th anniversary, scheduled for 15th to 17th July, would allow the traffic agency to unveil a 20-year Traffic Management Plan.

Taofiq continued, “As part of the commemorative activities, the Lagos State Government is set to unveil a comprehensive 20-Year Traffic Management Plan at the forthcoming three-day Traffic Conference.

“This ambitious blueprint will articulate holistic strategies for managing vehicular and pedestrian traffic before, during, and after infrastructure projects, as well as during events that may pose risks to road safety.”

Giwa further stated that the anniversary would provide the agency with an opportunity to reflect and rededicate itself to effective transport management.

“This 25th anniversary is not just a celebration; it is a moment for reflection, rededication, and visioning. It allows us to assess how far we have come, recognise the men and women who wear the LASTMA uniform with dignity, and unveil our roadmap for a smarter, technology-driven, citizen-centric traffic management future in Lagos.

“Our theme for this milestone celebration is LASTMA @25: Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos State Roads: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations.

“Through a line-up of commemorative activities, including the Lagos Traffic Summit, community outreach campaigns, staff recognition ceremonies, and strategic dialogues, we aim to reinforce LASTMA’s new values of professionalism, integrity, and service excellence,” the Special Adviser concluded.
