Edo Governor-Elect, Sen. Monday Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated his Delta State counterpart, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; former Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; and other former PDP members on their recent move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Okpebholo recognized the fluidity of the political environment and acknowledged that leaders often make decisions they believe will benefit their States and constituents.

Wishing Governor Oborevwori and the former Delta PDP members well in their future endeavours, he expressed optimism for continued cooperation between Edo and Delta States to advance the South-South region.

Governor Okpebholo affirmed Edo State’s dedication to maintaining strong ties with neighbouring States to achieve shared objectives.

He stated that with these significant defections in Delta State, the APC now has a strong presence in the South-South, which he believes will attract greater federal attention to the region.

Governor Okpebholo also expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is secured, particularly in the South-South, with the APC now holding sway in three major states.

Governor Okpebholo suggested that minority States, especially in the South-South, will no longer be marginalized, noting that with three of the six states now under APC control, the region is well-positioned to negotiate favourable outcomes.

He also expressed optimism that Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom may soon join the APC, further strengthening the party’s influence in the South-South.

He reiterated his satisfaction that President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid is now secure, stating that as the majority party in the South-South, the APC will deliver the region in the upcoming elections in 2027.

Signed: Fred Itua,

The Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor. Friday, 25 April, 2025.
