The Edo State Government has announced the cancellation of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025.

This decision was taken in consideration of the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which began nationwide on Thursday, April 24.

In a statement on Thursday night, Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., said the cancellation was “premised on the concerns of candidates sitting for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).”

While the sanitation exercise has been suspended for April, the government encouraged residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

“Despite the cancellation, all Edo residents are encouraged to keep their immediate environments clean,” the statement read.

The government confirmed that the reintroduced sanitation initiative will now commence on the last Saturday of May, 2025, and will hold between 7:00 am and 10:00 am across the state.

“The State Government remains committed to ensuring a safer, healthier and cleaner environment for Edo residents,” the statement concluded.
