The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP is embroiled in a controversy surrounding the disappearance of arms procured for the disbanded Edo Security Network.
Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the PDP caretaker Chairman, and Chris Nehikhare, a prominent party member, are facing mounting pressure to explain the whereabouts of the missing arms.
The controversy has sparked concerns about the potential link between the missing arms and the rising insecurity in the state.
With the Edo Security Network disbanded by the IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the fate of the procured arms remains unknown, fueling speculation about their possible use in perpetuating violent crimes and kidnappings.
Critics argue that the PDP’s handling of the security network’s disarmament has been opaque, with inadequate measures in place to ensure the safe storage and disposal of the arms.
The party’s leadership is under scrutiny, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
The Edo State Government has faced criticism from PDP for its response to the rising insecurity, accusing it of not doing enough despite their roles in aggravating the challenge.
While these concerns have escalated, there is a certainty that most guns and other sophisticated gadgets are yet to be retrieved from members of this defunct security service.
Since these missing gunmen in uniform have taken to their hills, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Edo State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chris Nehikhere, and the PDP, have become like a proverbial dog that returns to its vomit.
They are described as a fool who repeat their follies.
This is not a proverb that is found on cute crafts for sale at your local farmer’s market.
However, It is not one that elicits the “feels” as many are inclined to seek today. Instead, this proverb causes us to turn away as the word picture churns the stomach for these disgusting men who could not protect their own selves during the government of Godwin Obaseki.
This proverb, though often forgotten, has been inspired by the Holy Spirit for inclusion in the Word of God, which means it is there for a purpose.
These politicians of PDP scribes now sinking with their party, should remember that during the government of Godwin Obaseki, the PDP failed to protect the inhabitants of Abumere one and two in Ovia North East LGA, of Edo State from suspected herdsmen attacks where they were sacked from their homes.
The Edo State Government aas at then also played with the serenity of the Igueben train kidnapping saga, as Chris Nehikhare was aware of the lies surrounding the incident and should be questioned by security agencies
At the points of visitation to the Abumeres, it was learned that their crash crops were destroyed after their people took refuge at the Internally Displaced Persons IDP Camp in Uhuogua.
Obaseki had sent a team to ascertain the reported incident but came up with no attack reports to conceal his government security lapses.
When the caregiver of the IDP camp raised concerns about the overwhelming influx of unregistered displaced persons, the Edo State Government responded with an ultimatum: accept the situation or face severe consequences, including the revocation and closure of the camp.
This heavy-handed approach not only exacerbated the crisis but also raised questions about the government’s commitment to protecting its most vulnerable citizens.
The Igueben train kidnapping saga is another incident that casts doubt on the government’s handling of security issues.
Despite the real reports of 12 persons being kidnapped, the Edo State Government of Obaseki played to the gallery of the incident, increasing the number of victims to twenty-three persons.
Chris Nehikhare’s role in this incident, particularly his release of incorrect figures, warrants scrutiny.
A situation in which the DSS and other security agencies were aware and raised further questions about the government’s response.
The victims’ families were forced to pay a staggering 3 million naira each to secure their release, highlighting the government’s failure to protect its citizens.
These incidents suggest a pattern of inadequate response to security challenges and a lack of transparency in the Edo State Government’s handling of crises. The government’s priorities seem skewed, with more emphasis on maintaining power than protecting its people.
We are also charging Chris Nehikhare to provide a detailed account of the forcefield number of kidnapped victims, including the identities of those involved and their profiles.
His failure to cooperate should lead to his immediate arrest.
This demand for transparency is crucial in uncovering the truth behind the Igueben train kidnapping saga, where 12 persons were kidnapped, and the Edo State Government allegedly increased the number of the victims.
Furthermore, we are aware of the sinister plans by some politicians to destabilize the state after losing power to the incumbent government of Monday Okpebholo.
It is essential to recall that before the election, Obaseki equipped local security operatives with sophisticated weapons.
Now that their government has lost the election, some of these operatives have become redundant and are no longer integrated into the current government’s security framework.
This has led to concerns that they might be involved in the rising crime rate in the state, aiming to cause mayhem and disrupt the peace.
Since then, sophisticated weapons have been in their position
Their major aim is to cause mayhem because governor Monday Okpebholo is delivering beyond their expectations since he assumed power over the last 100 days.
For Dr. Aziegbemi, who was kidnapped in the same government as a party chairman, should not throw a stone in a glass house.
