The Senate on Tuesday formally asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fill the existing vacancies for Anambra-South Senatorial District and Edo-Central Senatorial District.

The Anambra-South seat was occupied by Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah until his death on 26th July 2024.

In the case of Edo-Central, the vacancy occurred following the victory of Sen. Monday Okpebholo, who became the Governor of Edo State.

Okpebholo was inaugurated on 12th November 2024.

Both lawmakers were members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, had previously declared the two seats vacant.
