The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reaffirmed Mr Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

The three-member panel, in a judgment delivered on Friday by Justice Hamma Barka, based its decision on a prior ruling made on November 13, 2024. This declaration arose from two separate appeals.

In the first appeal, marked CA/ABJ/CV/1217/2024, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and others were the appellants, while the Labour Party and others were the respondents.

In the second appeal, marked CA/ABJ/CV/1232/2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was the appellant, with the LP as the respondent.

Recall the Appeal Court on November 13, 2024, in a previous judgement in appeal number CA/ABJ/CV/1172/2024, maintained that Abure remained the national chairman of the LP.

Justice Barka stated that the two appeals decided today could not alter the leadership of the LP since it had already been settled by the appellate court.

He also indicated that these appeals originated from an incompetent suit and that the trial court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court in Abuja, lacked jurisdiction to determine the party’s leadership.

The judge urged all parties and the general public to respect the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which affirmed Abure as the national chairman of the LP.
