Social media users have condemned the detention of a police officer captured in a viral video with Wahab and Raheem Okoya, sons of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya.

The officer, whose identity has not been revealed, was detained by the police over his involvement in a viral video showing the billionaire sons allegedly abusing the Naira note.

According to a statement released on X on Friday by the Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disciplinary action is underway to address the misconduct.

The video, which has attracted widespread criticism, shows the officer holding wads of Naira notes as the Okoya brothers allegedly engaged in acts considered to be an abuse of the national currency.

In the video, Wahab and Raheem Okoya are dressed in white agbada outfits and flaunt stacks of crisp N1000 notes.

As the video continued, it captured the mobile policeman holding bundles of N1000 notes, while the billionaire’s sons danced and tossed the cash into the air.

The police condemned the officer’s involvement, describing it as unethical and contrary to the force’s values.

The detention of only the officer, however, has continued to spark reactions on X.

According to netizens, the officer should not be the only one detained, with many saying that the sons of the billionaire tycoon should also be detained alongside the officer.

Reacting to the development, @Irrunia tweeted, “The sons of Chief Okoya abused money and they were not punished. It was the policeman standing on his own that was punished. Omo Davido was right. In this life, have money or you go suffer.”

“What about the Okoya sons that committed the offence? Tálákà ṣe agbako ni country yí,” @ExquisiteDemola tweeted.

@FredMorgan29671 wrote, “Arresting the police man and leaving those abusing the naira tell a lot about Nigeria. It’s well ire oo.”

@Tobijubril tweeted, “The policeman was arrested but you people did not see the Okoya sons spraying money, law is really for the poor in this country.”

“You detained the policeman because he is poor. Why don’t you arrest those guys?” @MaliqIfeoluwa tweeted.

@Mazimum_ wrote, “Funny how the focus is on the policeman, but the sons involved in the incident seem to be left out of the conversation. If we’re serious about accountability, shouldn’t everyone involved face scrutiny, regardless of their status?”
