The Federal Government has submitted the necessary documents for the extradition of pro-Biafran agitator Simon Ekpa to Nigeria, according to Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.

Speaking on Channels Television’s 2024 Year-In-Review programme on December 31, 2024, Musa confirmed that Ekpa, arrested in Finland, is facing legal proceedings related to his alleged terror-related activities.

“Well, I’m sure he is cooling off somewhere,” General Musa remarked, noting that legal action is being pursued in accordance with international protocols.

“I don’t want to say much about that, but I’m happy he has been arrested. The Federal Government has actually forwarded most of the requirements to the Finnish Government. So, I’m sure the right thing will be done,” he added.

Ekpa was apprehended in November 2024 by Finnish authorities, along with four others, on suspicion of involvement in terrorism-related offences, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing.

The Finland district court in Lahti ordered his remand, citing probable cause for public incitement with terrorist intent in Nigeria.

The separatist leader, associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been accused of using social media to propagate separatist messages and fuel unrest in southeastern Nigeria.

General Musa also noted that the sit-at-home orders propagated by Ekpa and his allies in the South-East have begun to lose momentum, thanks to the ongoing military clearance operations in the region.
