The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA)  has announced the suspension of its 7-day warning strike, effective midnight tonight.

According to a communique signed by JOHESU Chaiman, Kabiru Minjibir, and National Secretary, Martin Egbanubi, the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Expanded National Executive Council of the Union on Thursday in Abuja.
They said the suspension follows extensive discussions regarding a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Federal Government during a conciliation meeting on October 29, and that NEC also reviewed reports from meeting as well as other meetings held with this Coordinating Minister of Health.
In a bid to ensure the government fulfills its obligations, the the unions have  set a six-week deadline for compliance with the MoU.
An additional meeting will be held at the end of this period to assess progress. If the government fails to meet its commitments, the union said that it may resort to an indefinite strike.
The labour leaders commended members for their solidarity and urged them to remain vigilant as negotiations continue, noting the importance of improving working conditions and social justice in the healthcare sector.
“Indefinite strike action shall be the next option if the Expanded NEC of JOHESU is not satisfied with the Federal Government responses to the implementation of her obligations contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU),” they warned.
