Former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu said his monthly salary as a Senator is N14 million.

The senator, who represents Abia North in the Senate, said this during an interview with Channels Television on Thursday.

The Senator disputed some Nigerians’ idea that parliamentarians live in luxury while the rest of the population suffers hardship.

There has been confusion over the monthly earnings of Nigerian federal lawmakers, with some lawmakers saying they earn as much as N21m.

“I earn N14 million for everything in a month. That is everything encompassing, the overhead, the worker’s salary, everybody,” Uzor-Kalu said.

Speaking further, Kalu argued that the N14 million is not enough to buy petrol to travel to his constituency and maintain the constituency office, among other things.
